Headshots & Business Portraits

Clean, consistent headshots for LinkedIn, team pages and press — shot in the studio or at your workplace, usually in well under an hour.

A headshot has one job: to look like you on a good day, and to keep looking like you for the next few years. Not softened into someone else, not lit so hard it becomes a passport photo. Just recognisably you, well lit, in something you would actually wear to work.

We photograph individual headshots and whole teams across Buffalo and Western New York — in the studio, or on site at your office when moving twenty people is more trouble than it is worth.

Who this is for

  • Professionals who need something better than a cropped wedding photo on LinkedIn
  • Teams and firms that want an about page where everyone matches
  • Consultants, agents and realtors whose face is part of the pitch
  • Actors, musicians and creatives who need range rather than uniformity
  • Anyone about to job hunt, where a current photograph quietly does a lot of work

Studio or on site

In the studio the light is built rather than found, so the result is completely predictable and repeatable — which is what you want when the photographs have to sit next to each other on a page. Backgrounds can be clean white, mid grey, or something with a bit more depth.

On site, we bring the lighting to you. This works well when the office itself is worth showing, when the brand is deliberately less formal, or simply when getting the whole team to one place at one time is unrealistic. We need a room with a bit of space and a power socket; nothing more exotic than that.

If you are weighing the two up, our guide to studio versus on location goes through the trade-offs properly.

Team shoots

Team sessions run on a rolling schedule — roughly five to eight minutes per person once the lighting is set. Everyone gets the same background and the same light, so the finished set genuinely matches instead of nearly matching.

Two things make a team shoot run smoothly: a booking sheet with names against times, and one person on your side who knows where everybody is. We will help you build the first; the second is worth nominating in advance.

What’s included

  • A short brief beforehand — where the images will be used, and what look you are after
  • Professional lighting, set for your background and skin tone
  • Direction throughout, because almost nobody knows what to do with their hands
  • On-screen review during the session, so you leave knowing you have it
  • Retouching that removes the temporary and leaves the permanent
  • High-resolution files plus web-sized and square crops ready for profiles

How to prepare

Solid colours photograph better than patterns. Bring two or three options, including one layer — a jacket changes the register of a headshot more than anything else you can do in five seconds. If you wear glasses, a non-glare pair helps enormously; if you have an old frame you can pop the lenses out of, bring that too.

Get a haircut about a week before rather than the day before, and if you normally wear makeup, wear roughly what you would to work. Our guide to what to wear covers the rest.

On retouching: we take out the things that will not be there next week — a blemish, a stray hair, a crease in the collar. We do not reshape faces or erase the lines that make you look like yourself. If you want a heavier hand than that, say so and we will do it; it is just not the default.

Book a session

For an individual headshot, tell us when suits and whether you would rather come to the studio or have us come to you. For a team, tell us how many people and we will work out how long it needs. Rates are on the pricing page, and quotes for teams are free.
